What's this Site About?
Webster's defines a guide as "one that leads or directs another's way", or "a person who exhibits and explains points of interest". In today's uncertain and stressful economic times, many of us could use such a personal guide to help us navigate through the myriad of big and small personal finance decisions we have to make each day. In contrast with the idea of "smart money" which is a term often used to referred to "insiders" who have superior insight into investment opportunities, I believe that good personal finance is not reflective of one's intelligence but rather a savviness that can be learned over time. So my goal with this site is simply to share ideas and insights to help everyday folks become more savvy, make better personal financial decisions, and to empower people to take control of their finances as opposed to let their finances control them. The articles on the site can range from simple tidbits of content in heady areas like real estate and investments to more mundane everyday topics like budgeting, credit card use, and money-saving tips. A Bit About Me
As a Harvard MBA with an undergraduate degree in finance and real estate finance from U.C. Berkeley, I'm fortunate to have benefited from the best business and financial education this country offers, and I have learned from many successful people who are extremely savvy with their personal finances. I've also been an executive in companies ranging from successful Silicon Valley technology start-ups to Fortune 500 financial services companies, so I have first hand knowledge of what it means to exercise good financial management from both a personal and professional standpoint. But most importantly, I've been able to achieve some measure of success in my own personal financial management and I like to share some of what I've learned with others. As a firm believer in the "wisdom of crowds", I will also look to share ideas inspired by others and over time, my hope is that this site can also become a forum and exchange of ideas for anyone who visits the site.
